Forums upgraded (View original topic)

As I'm sure you've noticed, I've upgraded the forums to the new version of the forum software.

It'll be a little while before everything is back to normal, especially the look of the place, so expect the appearance of the site to change and things like the wiki and gallery integration to gradually re-appear.

If you encounter any major errors though, let me know!

Hi Mike!

I'm trying to add some of my vehicle history to my signature and the following message keeps coming up when I select "save changes"

[#10211] You may only use up to lines of text in your signature.

Up to how many lines?? Even when I try one line it still comes up with this message...

:Mike:

Posted 08 August 2009 - 09:25 PM

I've not set that up yet, so it's something I'll have to look into...

Not to keen on the new look tbh.
Looks exactly the same as the japnortheast forum
and I think that looks pretty gash!
Preffered the cool grey look of the original.

Skins etc can be done in time, its just an updated version of the forum at the moment with new features etc

What he said :)

The skin will follow (hopefully soon) - I'm looking for something suitable.

Cool Mike! :B):
Not knocking the site at all,
I just think that this site has always looked
pretty unique compared to other forums.

Are we going to be using the rep feature?

We are totally abusing that feature on another forum :D

:Mike:

Posted 09 August 2009 - 12:08 AM

Not looked at rep yet - again that may follow later.

As you've probably noticed, I've made a start on modding a skin to be an evolution of the old look.
It's by no means finished yet...

Like the new green text,
goes really well the grey background :)

I just wondered though, apart from viewing
the newest content is there also a way of
viewing the last weeks, fornights, months
etc. topics?

Erm, was there before?

scooberuni

Yeah, there was a little box and the bottom and it said something like,
jump to this weeks, fotnights, months topics.
It was quite handy if you'd been away for a while and wanted to see
all the posts you'd missed.

Still looking for a pm I read earlier today though, not so cool.

Ah yeah, a couple of those front page links aren't valid any more - will need to look at that.

it makes everyone look like they are now a moderator.
Will you be changing the colour of their names now?

Just a side thought, can we have a sig size limit. Some of them are massive and it makes it difficult to get through a thread.

:Mike:

Posted 11 August 2009 - 11:32 PM

Yep, there are limits available on image sizes and number of lines of text now.
I'll be looking at that soon.

I've noticed on various post there seems to be some random gaps for example on the thread between post 26 and 27.. also iv'e noticed when people are posting up pics some of them are obscured by reply posts if ya know what i mean...

Gaps? I've not noticed them here.

Im using Internet Explorer 7.. Yea it just has big gaps sometimes between posts and sometimes I cant see peoples pics coz other replies are overlapping them.. Has the new forum been designed for use with IE8??

Well it's been designed to be standards compliant, so should be fine on IE8, Chrome, Firefox etc.
I'll have to have a look at IE7 and see if it's fixable - have been off sick with food poisoning or something today though so it won't be tonight!

Aha, yes there is.

From the portal (front page) click the "Today's Active Topics" link.
Then at the bottom of the page that appears there is a drop-down menu - active in the last 24 hours / week / 2 weeks etc... :D

Can the RSS functionality be extended to include forum posts?
At the moment, it is limited to blogs & calendar, but a forum RSS feed would be really useful.

Scooby shop link? Which one? One of the google ads.

I'm waiting for the arcade to be updated to work with this version of the software, which unfortunately it hasn't been yet.
Similarly with the gallery, although I may just invest in the Invision gallery instead, which integrates better with the forums.

I hope to get some time around Christmas to update those kind of things, and to update the skin (I know the current one isn't particularly popular)

The old style look is always still available to those who want to reminisce:-

I quite like the new look though, it's just a bit more green as apposed to yellow.
